Facebook and Skype come up with a major new feature video calling.

As reported and speculated days ago, Facebook has announced that it has teamed up with Skype to come up with a major new feature, which they hope would steal Google+’s thunder: video calling.

To be able to video call a Facebook friend who is online, simply go to that person’s profile and spot the new “Call” button located right between the “Message” and “Poke.” Click that and the other person will see a pop-up asking permission if he or she wants to accept the call. Once your friend accepts your call, the two of you can start hanging out right in front of your respective webcams.
This function is also integrated into Facebook Chat. If you notice what used to be a small chat button becomes a whole sidebar on the right side of your screen, that means you can now perform video calls. Click any online user on that sidebar and you will be prompted if you prefer a video call or the traditional chat. If you try to make a video call but the other user does not respond, you will be prompted to send your friend a video message instead.
The only downside we could see in Facebook Video Call so far is that it cannot accommodate group conferencing, but the social networking giant may introduce it if the need arises.
Note that you need to install a small applet to make video chat for Facebook work. You also do not need to create a new Skype account to make video calls on Facebook. Why don’t you try it out for yourself and see how it works!
